The sun symbolizes light, life, and hope, while the yurt represents the unity and harmony of the people.

The 40 rays of the sun stand for the 40 tribes that united under the legendary hero Manas to resist the Mongol invasion in the 12th century.

Currency of Kyrgyzstan

The currency of Kyrgyzstan is the som, which means “pure” in Kyrgyz.

The som was introduced in 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble.

The som is divided into 100 tyiyn.

The banknotes feature images of prominent Kyrgyz historical and cultural figures, such as Manas, Kurmanjan Datka, Toktogul Satylganov, and Togolok Moldo.

The coins depict various national symbols, such as the flag, the coat of arms, the ak kalpak (the traditional Kyrgyz hat), and the salburun (the falconry festival).
